Tulsa 21 (Black Guernica), 2021

The Black neighborhood of Greenwood in Tulsa Oklahoma popularly known as the “Black Wall Street” and was plundered by white mob violence due to an unsubstantiated claim that a young black teenager sexually assaulted a white woman (think Emmit Till, Central Park 5 etc) during the summer of 1921. This collage depicts the plunder, destruction of property, death and displacement as well as a plane above which dropped incendiary bombs (first ariel bombing on US soil before Pearl Harbor) reducing this once thriving area to a memory.
